Just Say Yes
Coming back to school means I can get back into a routine. Surprisingly, that was what I looked forward to most about the new school year. I could get back into a routine, and everything would be right in my life.
I'm someone who craves stability. I like order, and I would be totally fine if I did the same thing every day. No question about when I have to be somewhere or who I have to meet, just the same order every time. I'm the type of person who has my calendar color coded, and I put all my activities in there to make sure I don't mix anything up. I plan my weeks out at the beginning of every week, and I write out my months just to get an idea of what life will look like.
However, the downside of this is that I'm a college student. There will always be someone offering late night activities, or to leave the studying and homework for later and go do something fun. And don't get me wrong, I love having fun, as long as it fits into my color-coded schedule.
Something I'm going to try this year is saying "yes" to more things. I'm only going to be 18 and a college freshman once (hopefully), so I should make it fun. Everyone says "these are the greatest years of your life!", so shouldn't I try to enjoy them?
Maybe there's something you need to say "yes" to. A new job opportunity, a fun outing, or a difficult decision that could change your life forever. It's so easy to imagine all the bad things that could happen. But can you imagine all the good that would come if you just say yes?
God created us intentionally and uniquely, and we're all wired different. Maybe someone who's so regimented like I am needs someone who can persuade me to go out and try something new. The Lord intentionally brings people in your life, and gives you situations that you can't handle on your own. He's the only true answer, and holds peace that only you can find in Him.
So, whatever it is this year, just say yes. Don't dwell on the bad, and try to focus on all the great things the Lord has blessed you with so far, and try to imagine all the good that's going to come.
